Disability is a critical and growing area of inquiry in communication and media studies. It intersects with key domains such as representation, activism and social justice, access, mobile communications, technology, policy, culture, identity, health, popular culture, and media, among others.
Despite its relevance across ICA divisions and interest groups, with disability communication and media scholars across a range of ICA divisions and interest groups, as well as similar interest groups in other organisations, there is currently no dedicated interest group on the subject at ICA.
We are looking to change that by submitting an Interest Group application this November.
If you're an ICA member, we invite you to click the button above or follow this link to enter the platform (you'll need to log in) and support our petition.
You can also help us by sharing this flyer on your social media platforms, printing it, or letting your colleagues know about our initiative. Thank you very much in advance for your support.

Dear _________
We are a group of disability communication and media scholars looking to organize at the ICA.
Over the past three years, we have built a strong presence at ICA through our efforts, including this year's third Disability Preconference and a series of disability related panels and papers throughout the main conference. We are now looking forward to taking the next step by submitting an Interest Group application this November. More information about our work is available at www.icadisability.com, including details about our steering committee, which brings together leading and emerging disability communication and media scholars from around the world.
We hope you can support our efforts by signing the petition for a disability interest group at https://www.icahdq.org/page/prosp-ig-disability.
